From the mind of a parent and birthworker

A 50 year old Birth Story

50 years ago today, a woman birthed a brand new life. A boy. Her only son. She named him after her beloved father. She held him close and rocked him. She showed him off as the visitors came to meet the new baby, and to check in on her. This mother was so excited to finally be able to sleep on her stomach again, and thought her recovery time in the hospital was like Little vacation from the house of little girls anxiously waiting to meet their new brother. One visitor brought an entire tricycle to the hospital to give to the baby. Another came, and then disappeared because he got caught up talking to a group of strangers in the hall.
I know these things because she told me. we never forget the day that we give birth. Many details drift away, and many more stay etched in our hearts forever.
And in those moments, a life begins. In those 50 years that mother watched her baby grow into a sweet boy, race through his teens as a rascal, dash off around the world as a young man, and throw himself into marriage and fatherhood.

So thank you for going through the hard parts of birth and motherhood, so that baby could have such a strong start to a wonderful life! ❤️
